This cameo ring is set with an agate cameo, depicting Psyche, the lover of Cupid. The love story of Cupid and Psyche, which had lots of trials and tribulations but ended in a happy marriage, can be read in Ovid's Metamorphoses.
She can be identified by the butterfly wing in her hair, which has been beautifully carved, using the different coloured bands in the agate to create this detail.
The cameo is set in an 18k yellow gold ring mount. Similar cameos can be found in the collection of the British Museum, see inv. no. 1867,0507.802 and 1978,1002.253.

Age: Late 18th Century, also known as the Georgian era, circa 1780s. I believe the ring shank to be a later replacement, added in the mid-19th Century.
Hallmarks: The ring carries a French hallmark for 18kt gold.
Condition: This ring is in good antique condition with some wear, consistent with its age. The cameo is still in great condition with no damages. The ring shank was replaced at a later date.
